12 th International ATPase Conference

Na,K-ATPase and Related Transport ATPases of P-type: Structures, Mechanisms, and Roles in Health and Disease

August 5-10, 2008

Conference site

University of Aarhus and Helnan Marselis Hotel, Aarhus, Denmark.

The Marselis Hotel is situated at a lovely spot at the seaside near beach and forest (very nice for swimming, jogging, or walking) as well as the city center.

Topics

Starting in the early 1970s as a conference focused mainly on the Na,K-ATPase, this meeting has been held regularly (for the last decades every 3 rd year) and now covers all P-type ATPases, many having been discovered recently. Lectures will deal with the following topics:

Structure

Mechanism

Regulation

New P-type ATPases

Roles of P-type ATPases in physiology, pathophysiology, and medicine

The scientific program consists of 50 lectures by invited speakers, 10 lectures by speakers selected based on submitted abstracts and 10 oral poster presentations. In addition posters are displayed during the entire conference. We have received 152 poster abstracts that will be printed in the abstract book. We thank the speakers and chairs for agreeing to contribute, and our kind sponsors for making this arrangement feasible. We also thank the colleagues who contributed with advice in the selection of speakers – this was hard work, as there were many more good suggestions and abstracts than we could possibly fit into the program.

Honorary chairman

Nobel laureate Jens Christian Skou, University of Aarhus, will open the conference.

Organizing committee

Professor Jens Peter Andersen, Institute of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Aarhus.

Professor Bente Vilsen, Institute of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Aarhus.

Professor Poul Nissen, Department of Molecular Biology, University of Aarhus.
